Throw pillows, we want mo pillows!

Correct me if I'm wrong- but there seems to be something about throw pillows that you men just ain't havin.

A plethora of pillows sprinkled along a sofa can feel cluttered. The process of making your bed is already hard enough, the thought of adding throw pillows to the equation is just flat out inconceivable.   And even after all of that is said and done, aren't throw pillows just for women anyways with those flashy colors and designs? All of this is true... but also, mostly not true... at all.

It's time to bust through these ill conceived notions because believe it or not guys, throw pillows may just be that one thing thats missing in your life. Look no further, this post is here to help you fill the void. YAY!

Throw pillows come in an endless variety. I tend to keep to more neutral colors and instead opt for texture to bring warmth into a space. Think rich colored leathers, thick, cozy knits and smooth velvets. Sticking to neutral, masculine tones will have your throw pillows feeling anything but feminine.

Patterns can be a great way to bring character to a space. When considering patterns, stick to simpler prints like minimalistic stripes, herringbone, plaid or buffalo checks.

Now lets talk quantity. This appears to be one of the main stressors when considering throw pillows. Lucky for you, the less is more approach is a great rule to follow. Lets start with the sofa. I prefer two to three throw pillows on one side of the sofa, rounded out with a throw blanket on the opposite side.  It's best to pay attention to visual weight.  If  you have a side table or floor lamp on one end of your sofa, arrange the pillows on the opposite end to avoid a busy, uneven aesthetic. Another great approach is two pillows on each side of the sofa- a little symmetry never hurt nobody. As for chairs, in a masculine setting, I would forgo the throw pillow all together.

Moving on to the bedroom. When considering arrangements for your bed, there are lots of great options that utilize one to three pillows. Lets start with three pillows. In this setup you'll want to center the pillows in one of two manners: the first being two throw pillows in the back and one in the front or three pillows neatly ordered in a line. Next up, we have two throw pillows. In this scenario you'll want one centered in front of each of your bed/sleeping pillows. The last and easiest of the approaches, is the one and done! This must be an epic pillow- an oversized lumbar pillow to be exact. This is a bold statement and a breeze when it comes to making your bed. If you have a queen bed, you may be able to get away with a smaller lumbar pillow.

The message is clear. Throw pillows are a simple and masculine way to upgrade any space. Sticking to neutral colors, fun textures, and clean patterns create a space that feels put together yet manly. Still think you can't muster up the mental or physical stamina to place a pillow or two on your sofa or bed? Well then you simply are not worthy of the level of sophistication the throw pillow so kindly bestows upon you. All silliness aside, I think we can all agree that throw pillows are a pretty darn good idea.
